Amended AI Bill Moves Forward Amid Industry Opposition
HARTFORD, CT – Senate Democrats on Monday urged the passage of an amended bill that starts to regulate artificial intelligence as the Judiciary Committee approved the bill and sent it back to the Senate floor.
Senate Bill 2 would establish certain requirements for the development of AI in the state. This includes prohibitions on distributing non-consensual intimate images created with deepfake technology, commonly referred to as “revenge porn;” setting up rules and definitions to combat algorithm-based discrimination; establishing an online AI academy to help state residents train with AI technology; and creating a broadband outreach program to provide service and devices to state residents without access to broadband internet.
“There have been a number of changes throughout the process. We’ve been taking stakeholder feedback from both advocates, industry, academia, meeting with people regularly to update the bill. I do anticipate a new draft of the bill will be out later (Monday or Tuesday).” said Sen. James Maroney, D-Milford.Click here for more information and to see the full transcript.
